- Local band Hundred Hands Down at last year’s Battle of the Bands
Trident United Way’s sixth annual Battle of the Bands competition is set for Thurs. Aug. 4 at the Music Farm. The event features a ’70s-rock theme and aims to raise awareness about the work of Trident United Way and its nonprofit partners.
“This year the Battle of the Bands will pay tribute to the 1970s, which means all ’70s cover songs for the bands, as well as some groovy 70s décor,” says organizer Mark Bradley. “Bring your bell bottoms, but don’t expect to hear any Arcade Fire.”
The 12-band roster is comprised of various professionals who will compete against each other and reveal some underground talent from the Lowcountry.
The lineup includes Rocky Mountain Oysters, NOTA, Ascending Heights, South Strand Band, Cold Gin, ThunderKings, Cyn and the Sound Catz, Top Jimmy, Headrush, Big Bangs Theory, and the Bandicoots. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the first band hits the stage at 6 p.m. Admission is a $10 donation, which includes free concessions provided by local companies, ranging from barbecue and cupcakes to craft beer. A drawing for an iPad 2 giveaway will be part of the raffle.
