So you’ve always wanted to wakeboard, but every time you jump in the water behind a boat you never seem to be able to get up on your feet. Fortunately, learning how to stand up on two skis just got a lot easier thanks to Trophy Lakes and their newly installed Cablebahn, a zipline-like device high above the heads of skiers, wakeboarders, and kneeboarders that keeps them on their feet, giving them the opportunity to practice their skills without being dragged behind a boat.
According to Matt DuBon, Trophy Lakes operations manager, the Cablebahn helps water sports aficionados take it the next level. One wakeboarder found that the zip-line like device helped him learn how to do front flips, horizontal spins, and land backwards, a trick called landing blind.
And while the Cablebahn is a good teaching aid for newbie skiers and wakeboarders, surprisingly, it’s also been a big hit for kite boarders. DuBon says that the Cablebahn simulates kiteboarding but removes the hassle of getting that pesky kite up in the air. They now have kiteboarders coming in to work on their control, balance, and tricks. “The greatest thing about this place is that our homework is playing,” he says.
Of course, Trophy Lakes is about more than water sports. It also features one of the finest disc golf courses around. (See page 29.)
