Lines should be brisker than normal at polling precincts across the state as about a third of South Carolina registered voters cast ballots ahead of today, election day. More than 615,000 registered voters in South Carolina took advantage of no-excuse early voting, officials reported.

The top-of-ticket battle in South Carolina is for governor which finds Democratic candidate Joe Cunningham versus incumbent GOP Gov. Henry McMaster. A win for either candidate will make history. A win for Cunningham will mark the first Democratic governor in S.C. in 20 years, while McMaster’s victory would make him the longest-serving governor in the state. Another key race is for state superintendent of education which pits Democratic teacher Lisa Ellis versus Republican policy executive Ellen Weaver. 

Charleston voters will also decide who will represent South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District in the battle between Republican incumbent Nancy Mace and Dr. Annie Andrews, the Democratic challenger.  To meet all of the candidates in Charleston County, click here.

S.C. legislature to meet again to tweak abortion law. A conference committee of state senators and House members will meet one more time Wednesday morning to try to sort out a compromise between the state House and Senate over the abortion law.

Murdaugh to possibly be witness in Laffitte trial. Former lawyer Alex Murdaugh could be called as a witness in the federal trial of former bank CEO Russell Laffitte. Laffitte will stand trial Nov. 8 in Charleston for his charges related to interactions with Murdaugh. The trial is expected to last two weeks.

Charleston honors Gullah Geechee Group founder. Community members from Charleston and North Charleston honored Johanna Carrington Nov. 7, officially declaring it Johanna Carrington Day for her service in the community. Carrington founded the Gullah Geechee Group, helping educate about the heritage of the Geechee people across the Southeast.

S.C. gas prices climb to $3.25/gallon. Gas prices across the state rose an average of 3.5 cents last week, bringing the average price per gallon to $3.25.
