[image-1]One of America’s very first comic book ambassadors is set to visit Charleston to unveil his new series Cryptocracy.
Earlier this year, Van Jensen, a writer known for his work on DC’s Flash and Green Lantern Corps, was enlisted by the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia, to visit the country and work with Georgian student group Empowered Women to create a new comics promoting gender equality and nonviolence. Visiting Georgia in May, Jensen held workshops with students, guiding them through the ins and outs of storytelling and scripting.
“It’s important for me to remember that, as a creator, I’m making things that go out and influence people,” said Jensen, “and I need to make sure that I have the right kind of influence.”
Jensen will be stopping by Captain’s Comics and Toys in West Ashley on July 16 from 1-5 p.m. to sign copies of his newest creation. Illustrated by DC Comics artist Pete Woods, Cryptocracy explores conspiracies, aliens, and other supernatural secrets. Jensen described the series as a story told from the perspective of a secret, all-powerful organization that controls the planet. Finally seeing things through the eyes of those who hide in the shadows, the series blends science fiction and conspiracies to provide a fresh take on modern myths like Roswell and the Mothmen.
