UPDATE: The memorial service will take place at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Summerall Chapel. It will be open to the campus community.
Folly Beach police and the Coast Guard are still on the lookout for missing Citadel cadet Joshua Edwards, but Edwards’ family has asked the school to host a memorial service on Thursday.
The school’s public safety department alerted law enforcement after Edwards, a 21-year-old chemistry major from Greer and member of Papa Company, failed to show up for an accountability check last Thursday. Folly Beach police found his truck last Friday.
Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa spoke to Citadel cadets Tuesday and said Edwards had left information on his computer that indicated he was distressed. A missing-person bulletin put out by police said that authorities believed Edwards intended to end his life.
The memorial service will take place Thursday in Summerall Chapel on campus. A time for the ceremony has not yet been announced, and the Citadel has not yet announced whether it will be open to media and the public.
If you have any information on Edwards’ whereabouts, call Citadel Public Safety at (843) 953-5114.
