Editor Stephanie Barna has some photos from the scene today.

The Post and Courier report doesn’t say “gutted,” but that’s the word we’re getting from other folks and, considering the small size of the restaurant, it wouldn’t take much of a fire to destroy it.

An absolutely terrific little spot to eat, it reminded me a little of riverside dining in Beaufort, only better. The marsh and the creek were beautiful for patio dining (this weekend would have likely been the first chance for some really nice patio weather).

In a town where so much of the culinary experience must be enjoyed after searching a 10-block radius for a parking meter or by skimping on the server’s tip to make sure you have the cash for the garage, Mimi’s was everything you’d hope for in a pleasant alternative.

I hadn’t been back since it changed hands, but here’s hoping the restaurant will return better than ever.
