Late Friday afternoon, Vic Rawl, the Charleston County Council member who was embarrassed by a stunning defeat by sleepwalking fellow Democrat Alvin Greene, announced that he will not challenge the S.C. Democratic Party’s decision to let Greene’s victory stand.

Although Rawl’s race for the Senate is over with, he maintains that the Election Day “irregularities” that he encountered must be addressed in the future:

The issues we raised about the lack of election integrity in South Carolina are real, and they are not going away unless people act. I assure you that I will continue to speak out about our frail, vulnerable and unverifiable election system in the months to come.

I also feel strongly that the Democratic Party needs major reform of the rules and procedures regarding ballot qualification, protests and many other areas. This is critical to strengthen the Party and make it broadly competitive in our state.

Hmm.

I for one am shocked, shocked I tell you, like the time that I learned that cocaine is the preferred party drug among the South of Broad set, that the S.C. Democratic Party did not overturn the election and that Rawl is giving up so easily.

After all, Rawl had claimed that on Primary Day, S.C. voters cast their ballots on voting machines that “were purchased surplus from Louisiana after that state outlawed them.”

Outlawed? Somebody better look into this. (Oh. Wait. That’s not true? You mean the machines were bough brand spanking new from Nebraska? Golly gee. Then why didn’t Rawl or his campaign head Walter Ludwig, you know, come out and admit that charge was bunk? Hmm.)

But that doesn’t matter. The Rawl team had far more damaging evidence:

In Spartanburg County, Ludwig said there are 25 precincts in which Greene received more votes than were actually cast and 50 other precincts where votes appeared to be missing from the final count.

I don’t know about you, but that in and of itself sounds like enough to get the whole election thrown out. Which is why I find it odd that in the reports that I have read about last week’s hearing, Rawl and company didn’t bring up that bit of damning information? Hmm. You don’t think it was a bullshit do you?

Nah. That would never happened.
