Last night we took a trip to Cuba, err, Hutson Alley, to try some of Victor Social Club’s new menu items. The bar and restaurant has fully embraced its new Cuban theme, with cigars available for sale and live Cuban music (last night it was Gino Castillo), playing in the courtyard — where, yes, you can smoke said cigars. Read on for deets on what’s good.
El Presidente Margarita, made with grated lime zest, tequila, and grand marnier floater. And a heavily salted rim, which we love, but keep it in mind if you don’t. ($12)
[image-1]The Hemingway Daiquiri, made with Barbados aged rum, grapefruit, lime juice, cane simple sugar, Maraschino liqueur. A dreamy, creamy, decadent drink that goes down dangerously smooth. ($10)
Jalapeño fried bananas, crispy pork, pickled mango pineapple, banana ketchup. Yes, banana ketchup. It’s good, we promise. ($8)
Mojo grilled shrimp, domestic East coast shrimp marinated in citrus, pineapple guacamole, malanga (a root vegetable) chips. This dish is super fresh and goes well with that super salty margarita.
Cornmeal encrusted calamari, pineapple mojo, banana pepper mole. The sauce for these little fried squid is divine. ($12)
