Happy Hanukkah and Happy Weekend, dear readers. Here’s just a sampling of the many events going on over the next few days.
Let’s get the holiday stuff out of the way first. Friday night is Carolina Nightlife’s Bad Sweater Contest Party at Trio — you can win $100 if you’re looking beast enough. Granville’s is the site for Friday night’s Christmas with a Cause fundraiser — enjoy music and food, and the $10 donation will benefit North Charleston Dream Center. For a more historical celebration, head to the Edmondston-Alston House for a historical candlelight tour on Friday, or check out Charles Towne Landing’s Ceremonies of the Cultures on Saturday for a glimpse of what the holidays were like in the New World. Also Saturday, Middleton Place hosts their festive Family Yuletide. (FYI Charles Towne’s event is the most budget-friendly of the bunch with tickets $3-$5.) Saturday night could be traumatic for your kids — the Charleston Fun Club’s Santa Pub Crawl is going on around East Bay and Market Street bars. Sunday afternoon check out Chanukah in the Square (Marion Square, that is) and the Mt. Pleasant Parade starting at Shem Creek just before 6 p.m.
Now let’s talk about free stuff. Thanks to the Junior League, the Gibbes Museum of Art is offering free admission from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. Also head down to Market Street for Taste of the Market, with food samples, live music, and a visit from Santa (hopefully just one). Show your support for families affected by Autism in the Strides for Autism walk in Hampton Park Sunday.
Knock out some of your gift shopping at the Winter Craft Bazaar at the new Outer Space on Meeting Street on Saturday, and check out Eye Level Art’s Pop Up Shop as well. Speaking of ELA, they’re hosting the Good Karma Art Auction on Saturday night for $5 — bid on something for that special someone, or yourself. Saturday morning, the Charleston County Park and Rec is holding an Outdoor Gear Sale at James Island County Park, and artist Guy Harvey is making an appearance at Palmetto Moon in Citadel Mall from noon-3 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, Hope and Union hosts the Candy Shop Vintage and Proud Mary Holiday Sale.
Stuff your face at Tristan’s introductory dinner to new chef Nate Whiting on Sunday, or indulge in Circa 1886’s Progressive Dinner. Or try some simpler fare at Charleston Audubon Society’s Holiday Fundraiser and Oyster Roast at Bowens Island Sunday.
