This weekend kicks off the first days of June, meaning that it is finally time for another legendary Charleston summer. Get in the summer reading mood with some book-oriented events this weekend — since one’s in a bookstore, you might find your next beach read. Of course, we are also in the midst of Charleston’s most eventful time of the year, the Spoleto Festival USA, so be sure to check out the full schedule and our Spoleto Buzz blog for even more exhilarating events this weekend.

Start off your weekend getting crafty and creative with the Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Craft Fair, which displays works from artists all over the U.S.

Then head to Folly Beach for the first of the Moonlight Mixer summer series, which celebrates summer with beachy tunes and dancing on the peer.

Wake up Saturday morning and get some exercise for a good cause. You can run or walk at the Green and Lean 5K and help support keeping our city beautiful.

Also, Saturday is the first day of June, which means that any music guru should head to Monster Music for the monthly Vinyl Saturday and get 20% all vinyl records.

In the afternoon, Hampton Park will host a film screening of Olmsted and America’s Urban Parks, a documentary that explores the work Frederick Law Olmsted, the country’s most renowned public park designer, as part of Piccolo Spoleto.

Saturday night, a brand new interactive art gallery, the Art Mecca of Charleston, will have its grand opening party complete with live music and the opportunity to speak with the gallery’s artists.

On Sunday, check out the Lowcountry Artist’s Book Meet where eight local artists will show their original handmade books. Get in some more book appreciation at the Halsey’s Rebound: Dissections and Excavations in Book Art (although you’ll have to see it on Friday or Saturday — the Halsey’s closed Sundays).

Or have a family fun day for free at Blackbeard’s Cove in celebration of their 7th anniversary.
