In case you haven’t heard, a giant blizzard is headed toward the Holy City. So any of these events may or may not be canceled by Charleston’s chicken littles. Let’s hope not.

The Southeastern Wildlife Exposition takes over the city this weekend, marking the kick-off of tourist season. Our guide to SEWE has a schedule and all the details you need. The SEWE King Street Stroll is Friday from 6-8 p.m. Other highlights are the Dock Dogs competition, an Evening with Jack Hanna at the S.C. Aquarium, oyster roasts, wild game-cooking demos, and the Birds of Prey demos and other events in Marion Square. On a SEWE-related note, the MoonPie General Store on Market Street will unveil a “giant camo MoonPie,” weighing in at 55 pounds and 45,000 calories. Stop by for a little snack. 

Valentine’s Day is Sunday, and there are plenty of prix-fixe dinners for you and your honey — that is, if you remembered to make reservations in time. There are also some great events for the singles in town. Mellow Mushroom hosts their popular F Cupid Party with music from Electric Friends and drink specials. The Mill hosts a V-Day Sock Hop with burlesque dancers, a hot rod show, a kissing booth with the Lowcountry High Rollers, and music from the Defilers and Jason & The Juggernauts.

The Southeastern Beard & Mustache Championships are Saturday at the Tin Roof. Think bearded men, bluegrass music, and other fun.

There’s lots of theater going on this weekend — perfect for escaping the blustery weather (and impressing a potential valentine). CofC presents The Vagina Monologues Friday night at Physician’s Auditorium. It’s the last weekend to see PURE’s Yankee Tavern and RENT, and the only weekend you can catch the Village Playhouse’s dinner theater production Tony n Tina’s Wedding (think Jersey Shore). Also, Charleston Ballet Theatre’s Masterpieces of Dance is Saturday night, and they’re offering 50 percent off your second ticket. Use the code “lark” when asking for the discount.
