Get ready for a jam-packed weekend, because there are more festivals, parties, and special events going on than you can shake a stick at. By the looks of it, it might not even rain every afternoon, so enjoy these last dog-days of summer by spending some time outside, even if it’s I Love Lucy-style (you’ll get it, just read on).
Friday, whether you’re remodeling your home or dreaming up a fantasy house that you’ll build as soon as you get rich, the Custom Home and Remodel Show will have plenty of exhibits from architects and home builders to give you daydream material for weeks. There will even be tailgating cooking demonstrations. If you can’t make it Friday, don’t fret. The show goes on through Sunday.
If custom homes bore you to tears, stop by the Halsey for the opening reception of The Paternal Suit: Heirlooms from the F. Scott Hess Family Foundation, or for something a bit more interactive, put on your sleuthing hat and check out the Black Fedora Mystery Theater’s Inspector No-Clue’s Murder Mystery.
Saturday’s a busy one, so sleep in a bit before heading out to the Ballpark Festival of Beers at Joseph P. Riley Stadium. Round out your alcohol imbibing at the Irvin House Winery’s Grape-Stomping Festival, where you can actually stomp on some grapes. There’ll an I Love Lucy look-alike contest too.
Pick up some cool antiques in Park Circle at the Village Antiques and Collectibles Show or shag the afternoon away at the Charleston Beach Music and Shag Festival. Wrap up that fun-filled day by getting crafty at SpaceCraft’s Grand Opening Party in Avondale.
Sunday is party day, with chances to hang out with the city’s creatives while raising money for the arts: if you’re into dancing, cruise with the Charleston Ballet Theatre. Political? Celebrate a woman’s right to vote with the Center for Women’s Eat Drink Vote party. Theater buffs can indulge their own theatrical sides by dressing up in their best ’20s get-ups for Theatre Charleston’s Gin & Jazz party.
Just don’t overdo it — Monday’s just around the corner.
