This weekend, get your balls out. (We mean tennis balls. Gosh. Get your mind out of the gutter.)
The Family Circle Cup starts this weekend, but for fans of sea sports, Charleston Race Week also kicks off. It’s the fastest growing regatta on the east coast, and there’ll be daily races (and nightly beach parties).
Ever want to make your way in to a stranger’s beautiful house? You’ll get to do it legally this weekend, either at the Garden Club of Charleston’s Walking Tour of Private Houses and Gardens, or through the Kiawah Island Art and House Tour, sponsored by the Gibbes.
You can do your part to help out some great causes. There’s a benefit ride for Relay for Life starting at Fiddler’s Green Pub on Saturday, or why not Bowl for Kids’ Sake. Midtown Bar & Grill is throwing Bunco for Multiple Sclerosis. And Alliance for Full Acceptance will have an oyster roast Sunday.
If you’re looking for a laugh, this is your weekend. Lewis Black is at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center on Saturday. Bruce Bruce (the former host of BET’s Comic View) will also be in town Saturday, performing at the Charleston Music Hall. Theatre 99 might be easier on your wallet; they’ve got their Comedy Combat, This is Chucktown!, and Improv Riot shows.
Dancefx presents their student choreography showcase Artists on Friday, and Pilobolus will surprise even the most skeptical dance fan on Saturday night. For theater buffs, An Ideal Husband opens, while Cabaret and Always … Patsy Cline continue their runs. And the Charleston International Film Festival plays through Sunday.
The Jazz Artists of Charleston present their fundraiser See Jazz at the Charleston Center for Photography on Friday. It will feature original pieces from Nathan Durfee, along with work from local photographers, all inspired by the music. You can also watch a real performance when Chamber Music Charleston plays their Gallery Concert Series Finale on Sunday.
And there’s no better way to end the weekend than at the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony show at the Music Farm. See you at tha crossroads (but not literally).
