Weekend Roundup: Vive la weekend

We finally made it: welcome to the weekend, fine folks of Charleston. We’re here to act as both your pregame and postgame authority to make sure the fun continues all weekend long. Today is Bastille Day, so be sure to see what French restaurants in town have going on. Friday

Surf’s up tonight, kind of, with Surf in the City: A Night of Surf Films at the Music Hall. The series of short films starts at 7 p.m.

Local retailer YESAND pops up at J.Stark from 5 to 8 p.m. showing off wares from their newest collection. The free event includes beer and plenty of Charleston-map emblazoned stuff to check out.

The Unspoken Word hosts their bi-monthly open mic poetry night at Elliotborough Mini Bar, promising plenty of talent and craft beer.

Speaking of poetry, head to Eclectic Cafe & Vinyl to hear award-winning poet, social worker, and artist Marlanda Dekine at 7:30 p.m.

Help raise money for local band the High Divers at a benefit concert at The Royal American at 9 p.m.

Established country master Tracy Lawrence performs at this year’s Rockin’ The Grove at Patriots Point. Snacks and plenty of beer will be available to purchase.

Get your creative comedy fix at Theatre 99 at Improv Smackdown. Bonus: the audience gets to act as judges in the first act, adding a whole new facet of fun.

Oh Folly Nights plays at the Charleston Performing Arts Center tonight and tomorrow at 8 p.m.

Listen to Guilt Ridden Troubadour at Home Team on Sullivan’s at 10 p.m.

Boogie down at the Friday Night Boogie at Mt. Pleasant Pier starting at 7 p.m.

Saturday

Early birds, early birders. A professional birder leads attendees at the Caw Caw Interpretive Center at 6 a.m.

Hit one of the multiple food trucks at the Marion Square Charleston Farmers Market for a bangin’ breakfast, and make sure to stock up on local produce and handmade pasta.

Contemporary ballet exhibit Light Lines will be performed at Reverb, prefaced by a cocktail hour and followed by a party complete with snacks from Warehouse’s chef Emily Hahn.

Listen to the city’s best-named band, Dan’s Tramp Stamp & the Money Bags, playing at Red’s Ice House at 10 p.m.

Le Farfalle turns one this Saturday and is celebrating with a party of grand proportions; beverage director Brad Goocher will be mixing up 10 variations of the traditional Negroni (check out our preview of a few of those cocktails, too).

Soak up your Rusty Bull brews with some food truck grub from Wally Gyros.

Rock out fo free on the Pour House deck with Johnny and the Broken Hearts at 6 p.m.

Geechee Gala celebrates Gullah history and raises money for the revitalization of Mosquito Beach, one of the first places inhabited by freed slaves in the 1800s. The event is from 6 to 10 p.m. at 2 Canal St.

Well-seasoned stand-up comedian Tom Segura hits the stage at the Gaillard at 8 p.m.

The Deep Purple Warehouse Party features music from Boy Harsher, Fogg and Ashe, DJ Auntie Ayi, DJ Party Dad, and DJ Bobby Tony at 9 p.m.

Sunday
Get classy with a jazz brunch at How Art Thou at 11 a.m., complete with the stylings of Frank Puzzullo.

Coastal Expeditions hosts the Cape Romain lighthouses tour from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Meet at the Sewee Visitor Center.

Take the kids to Monkey Joe’s for national ice cream day — they can bounce around to burn off all the celebratory free ice cream.

If you didn’t get enough free ice cream or just don’t have the requisite kids to get into Monkey Joe’s, Park Circle Creamery is also offering some free frozen treats from 12 to 2 p.m.

Soak up the views of the Charleston harbor and, of course, the booze on the Palmetto Breeze.
