[embed-1] It’s gonna be … May. Which means spring is in full swing here in the Lowcountry and with it a buttload of food and drink related events (many taking place in the great outdoors). With the Derby, Cinco de Drinko, and the special dress-like-a-Star Wars-character day all happening this weekend, there’s plenty of fun to be had. Stay tuned for our picks for those special fetes — for now, check out all the farmers markets, barbecues, wine tastings, and beer releases you can fathom:
Monday
The St. Philip’s Tea Room starts service today through May 3. Stop by between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. for okra soup, chicken salad sandwiches, ham biscuits, homemade dessert, and more.
Nico hosts their weekly oyster education class starting at 6 p.m.; for $55 learn about the history of the oyster, farming techniques, and get a how-to on shucking. You’ll get to try a dozen oysters, a glass of Oysterman wine, and you’ll even score your own take-home oyster knife.
It’s the Folly Farmers Market starting at 4 p.m.; shop local vendors while enjoying the spring breeze.
Get your egg roll on at Charles Towne Fermentory starting at 5:30 p.m. with Sap-Lai Charleston.
Today starts Kwei Fei’s Cinco de Mayo Micho takeover, running through this Sunday. Chef David Schuttenberg whips up Mexican street fare and some more elaborate dishes inspired by the Mexican food he ate growing up in Arizona.
Tuesday
Head to Doar Bros. from 5 to 7 p.m. for mint julep happy hour with Angel’s Envy juleps. USBG members get a complimentary cocktail, too.
Starting at 6 p.m. Red Drum hosts a “celebration of summer” featuring a wide variety of rose pours, plus white and red sips perfect for the hot weather. Julius and Jessica Henson of Winebow will be onsite with the vino, and your $25 ticket gets you samples, snacks, and some fun blind tastings.
Try some Curated Selection Wine at Wine & Co.’s Tuesday tasting starting at 5:30 p.m.
Sip some Spanish vino at Accent on Wine from 6 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday
Pub Fare pops up at Tradesman starting at 5 p.m. with juicy/cheesy/squishy burgers galore.
Edmund’s Oast holds a sour and rare beer event with Allagash starting at 5 p.m. Choose from five 8 oz beers on tap — Coolship Resurgam, FV13, Copian, Little Sal, and Wannigan.
Every Wednesday head to The Parlour, the cocktail lounge above Parcel 32, for Bubbles and Pearls starting at 5 p.m. Enjoy $1.50 oysters shucked to order and half-price select bottles of bubbly.
Every Wednesday until May 29 visit Middleton Place for a happy hour garden stroll and wine tasting.
We’re all familiar with brews and down dog, but did you know you can sip on spirits post savasana, too? Striped Pig hosts yoga in the distillery from 5 to 6 p.m.
Wine & Tapas Bar in Summerville hosts a German wine tasting — stop by any time after 6 p.m. to taste five wines including three styles of Riesling, a pinot grigio, and a gewurztraminer.
Thursday
The Gibbes Museum of Art hosts its 10th annual street party from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Leave the kids at home — Night at the Brewseum at the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry kicks off at 6 p.m. with food, beer, wine, and games.
Sip on earthy and “supremely drinkable” pours of Beaujolais at this $5-only tasting at Edmund’s Oast Exchange starting at 5:30 p.m.
Starting at 6:30 p.m., Ruth’s Chris Steak House hosts a Prisoner Wine Company tastemaker dinner featuring five courses like espresso barbecue-topped filet and chilled king salmon paired with Prisoner wine.
From 3 to 7 p.m. every Thursday you can snag fresh produce at the Moncks Corner Farmers Market.
Friday
It’s Party at the Point season y’all. From 5:30-9:30 p.m. jam on the water in Mt. Pleasant — this Friday enjoy the tunes of the Ol’ 55s and Natty Grass.
Every year Verde celebrates Cinco de Mayo with Cinco de Mesa, selling $5 Mesa Verde salads all day — available for dine in or take-out, no delivery.
Dorchester Habitat for Humanity’s largest fundraising event, Lowcountry Blast & Boil, takes place from 2-11 p.m. at the Summerville Country Club. Enjoy a shrimp boil and an open beer and wine bar.
In honor of their two year anniversary Rusty Bull is celebrating with two full days of fun starting Friday at 5 p.m. with eats from The Immortal Lobster, music from Whiskey Diablo, and the release of a new beer. Pints are just $5 all day. Sat. May 4 there will be special beer releases, food from Root Note, music from Meshell Wolf and Keys & Company, and the Derby on TV.
Maui Tacos celebrates Cinco de Drinko all weekend, Fri.-Sun. with discounted food and drink.
Smoky Oak Taproom pops up at Freehouse Brewery from 4 to 8 p.m. with plenty of ‘cue to pair with your brews.
2Nixons is at Proof every weekend with noods and, this weekend, hand-pressed masa tacos.
Saturday
The 43rd Annual Lowcountry Shrimp Festival and Blessing of the Fleet takes places from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in historic McClellanville with live music, craft vendors, and plenty of shrimp (and other food) to chow down on.
Hey nerds! The Galactic Pub Crawl kicks off at 4 p.m. at Ink N Ivy. Other participants include Carolina Ale House, Mynt, Charleston Beer Works, Uptown Social, Big Gun Burger, and Burns Alley.
Go beyond the gin and tonic at Stems & Skins starting at 4 p.m. North Charleston distillery Nippitaty Gin will be in the restaurant with classic cocktails from a martini to Corpse Reviver No. 2.
From 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Riverfront Park check out the North Charleston World Arts Expo cooking demo at stage C. Chef Jennifer Williams will be preparing a crawfish etouffee.
