I’m not a fan of Facebook. Never have been, never will be. And these days it’s harder and harder to log onto my Facebook account.
Since the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, the social media site has been awash in mounds and mounds of bigoted BS, and it only seems to be getting worse each time a black man is killed by the cops or an illegal immigrant commits a six o’clock news crime. To make matters worse, Donald Trump has given the I’m Not Racist But crowd carte blanche to drop bon mots in any post regarding immigration, the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East, crime, the Confederate flag, and the possibility that blacks lives, um, you know, matter.
Today, however, I came across one Facebook post that I could agree with, one which very much expresses some of my own concerns about The Donald.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I kinda like Donald Trump. I have a soft-spot for delusional, narcissistic blowhards with a flair for the dramatic and a gift for the long con. From P.T. Barnum to L. Ron Hubbard, they’ve been, by and large, my role models. That said, I wouldn’t want them to represent me in government, whether at the local, the state, or the national level. Actually, I take that back. They’re great at the local level. I mean, who else runs for school board?
And so it is with Trump. I don’t want him to be president. For one, he’s used to getting his way, and, well, in politics, nobody gets their way — ever — and so I fear what he might do when that happens. Two, his impromptu trash talking would put the combined shit-throwing might of Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong Un, and Kanye West to shame, and, well, that would be a disaster on the world stage. And three, I’m actually worried about what would happen if the American people actually let The Donald do as he pleases. His Mexican-built and paid-for wall sounds silly now, but what if he forces the Mexican people to do it?
Which brings me back to my friend’s post, the one that sums up my Trumpest fears. She wrote: “When I hear Trump talk about undocumented people, I am reminded of how a charismatic leader in Germany once spoke about Jews. Seriously, research the similarities.”
And that’s what I did.
So without further ado, let’s play a game of Trump or Hitler. Just read the quotes below and decide which one came from The Donald and which one came from Der Fuhrer. (Answers at the bottom of the story.)
