The Charleston Symphony Orchestra is partnering with singer and musician Javier Colon, season one winner of The Voice, for Broadway Under the Stars. Held on Sat. Oct. 7 at Volvo Car Stadium, this evening concert, featuring Broadway songs, raises money for the orchestra.

Colon dubs his musical style “acoustic soul,” as it’s a blend of pop, rock, R&B, and acoustic guitar. During the concert, he’ll perform numerous Broadway songs backed by the CSO’s full orchestra.

“Music is powerful,” says Colon. “It can make you cry, it can make you laugh, it can make you dance, and it can make you feel like you’re not alone. It can allow you to confront your life, or it can make you forget about life for a while. My music has always come from the heart, and from a place of wanting to move people or make people feel something inside.”

This benefit concert is part of the CSO’s various fundraising efforts, which range from ticket sales to private donations.

“Ticket sales only account for about half of the CSO’s revenue,” says CSO’s director of marketing, Jennifer Metts. “We rely on the community’s generous philanthropic support for the other half. The CSO is fortunate to receive gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, and local and state government to achieve our mission of exceptional musical performances and educational programs.”

The show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets are currently available online, at the stadium box office, or by calling (800) 745-3000.
