Winter weather conditions in Memphis and Louisville this week may delay shipments of the COVID-19 vaccine to South Carolina, state health officials announced today. The Department of Health and Environmental Control said, alongside the announcement, state vaccine providers have been alerted to the potential delay.

“Delays are most likely to occur today and tomorrow,” read a post by the agency on Twitter. “Hospitals and other facilities that receive vaccine shipments directly from the federal government should frequently check the tracking numbers provided to them for their weekly shipments.”

Updates will be provided as information comes in.

Another 868 cases of COVID-19 and 16 deaths related to the virus were counted Tuesday bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 428,684. Out of 21,315 tests reported today statewide, 5.9% were positive.
