The Flowertown Players of Summerville will be performing Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Margaret Edson’s Wit, opening Thursday. The play premiered in New York in 1998 and has received praise from audiences nationwide. Originally published in 1993, Wit illustrates the story of Vivian Bearing, a dedicated English professor diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. When Vivian undergoes treatment, the story flashes back 20 years before the diagnosis, to when she was an ambitious school teacher. Directed by Sean Lakey, Wit stars Rhonda Kierpiec. Naomi Nimmo, who helped direct the play, will also have a minimal role; it’s Nimmo’s first role after directing for 15 years. Saturday night’s performance will include a Q&A segment with the cast and crew following the play. —Mark Glenn Aug. 28-31. $15, James F. Dean Community Theatre, 133 S.
