Proving that people use Sur-Gel for a purpose other than passing drug tests, the Culinary Institute of Charleston will host a two-part “Food Preservation Boot Camp.” Dr. Libby Hoyle, former professor and extension specialist at Clemson’s Dept. of Packaging Science, will teach participants how to pick fruits and vegetables at their peak, then put them into a jar for the Lowcountry’s cold and dreary winters. Sanitation and safety will be taught, as well as lab work on jam and jelly creation, canning, and other preservation methods. A copy of the book So Easy to Preserve comes with the class. Call 577-6655 for more info or to sign up. Send your girlfriend and eat homemade blueberry jam all year! —Stratton Lawrence TUESDAY/THURSDAY
