At the Charleston City Paper, we love podcasts. Listening to them, writing about them, and hell, even making them. We wanted to have all of the City Paper‘s podcasts (and a few from our friends) in one place for your listening pleasure.

A Modern History of the Satanic Panic
Dustin Waters takes a deep dive into the history of the Satanic Panic, the mass hysteria that gripped the country in the 70s and 80s. It all started in the 1890s when a woman named Diana Vaughan married the devil in the Holy City. This story has it all: fake devil worship, a rumored Satanic temple in the middle of downtown Charleston, police fears that the occult is taking root in South Carolina, and of course, a reaction from the head of the Church of Satan.
The podcast is available on iTunes, Spotify, Overcast, and SoundCloud.
The Candlestick Murders
We examined the 1958 Candlestick Murder of Jack Dobbins, a gay man who’s killing would strike fear into Charleston’s gay community for years. The story, from Dustin Waters, provides context for violence against the LGBTQ community that still happens today.
The podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Soundcloud, and RSS.
