When I was in high school we had a canteen that sold candy bars and chips. It was right in the middle of the campus and was open all day. It was run by the kids in the special ed class. It was called The Nut Hut.
I know that makes my high school seem chock full of heartless assholes, but the phrase “Nut Hut” was never used with any malice. That’s what everyone called it, including our teachers and our parents. “Here, sweetie, here’s your money for the Nut Hut.” “Where are you going Mrs. Gordon?” “Oh, I’m going to the Nut Hut.” I’m pretty sure the words Nut Hut were written above the canteen itself.
