Alluette Jones is expanding her organic empire, opening a second business on Calhoun Street in the old Porgy & Bess/Lite Affair spot next to Trio Club.

Alluette’s Jazz Café will feature plenty of live jazz. The Oscar Rivers Trio will serve as the house band on Friday and Saturday nights with special guests brought aboard when possible.

The café will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., and the menu will be similar to that at Alluette’s on Reid Street. Since there’s no hood system in the small Calhoun space, they’ll keep to sandwiches, soups, and salads. But Alluette herself will be manning the new kitchen and promises the same quality we’ve come to expect from her. Over at the Reid Street cafe, Alluette has installed Lester Brown in the kitchen. The grand opening is Fri. May 29.
