Blue Bicycle Books welcomes author Lee Robinson for a book talk on her novel Lawyer for the Dog from 5-7 p.m.
Learn the ins and outs of the music industry from contemporary leaders in the field at In The Mix lecture presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall at the Simons Center for the Arts.
Tuesday
Check out Gang of Thieves playing at the Pour House at 9:45 p.m. right after a “Blues on the Deck” show at 6:30 p.m.
Bring the kids over to the Charleston County Main Library at 3:30 p.m. for Movies and Munchies to watch Into the Woods.
Always wanted to learn how to draw? Michael’s Craft Store in West Ashley is holding free lessons from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Wednesday
Revelry Brewing Co. will hold a “not your average networking” event for young professionals from 5:30-7:30 p.m. hosted by JTM Marketing.
To celebrate Ballroom Dance Week, the Ballroom Dance Club in West Ashley will offer beginner dance lessons and free pizza from 7-8:30 p.m.
Thursday
Food Stylist Janice Stahl will be at ALDI in Summerville from 2-5 p.m. giving food demonstrations on tailgating and fall themes.
The Grace Project Exhibit, a traveling art exhibit focused on breast cancer survivors with mastectomies, will be at Martin Gallery from 5-8 p.m. with food from Brown Dog Deli and a presentation by the artist Isis Charise.
Kick off the first day of the MOJA Festival at Dock Street Theatre from 6-8 p.m. for the opening reception to learn about the upcoming events and munch on some Caribbean food.
Opening Day of MOJA continues at 6 p.m. with an incredible street parade beginning at Marion Square and traveling down King to Market Street.
Head to the School of Science and Math for a screening of Curious Worlds, a film surrounding the life and work of Artist David Beck, from 8-9:30 p.m followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker.
Both Home Team BBQ locations, West Ashley and Sullivan’s Island, will host a Widespread Panic Album Release Party at 9 p.m. to celebrate their newest CD Street Dogs.
Friday
Legendary cartoonist, Ron Campbell, famous for his illustrations of the Beatles, the Flintstones, Rugrats, Scooby Doo, and many more will be at the Art Mecca of Charleston 12-6 p.m. talking with guests and painting on site.
As part of the MOJA festival, there will be an Advancing Diversity and Inclusion Forum and Panel Discussion to promote diversity and inclusion. The panel will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and include business and community leaders, food, art, and music.
Out to Lunch with the Conservancy, sponsored by 105.5 The Bridge, takes place from 11:30 a.m.-2 and welcomes anyone to Hampton Park for yoga, games, free wi-fi, and food available for purchase from local food trucks.
Get your groove on at Brittlebank Park for the MOJA Reggae Block Party from 6:30-11 p.m.
Nick Forte will perform live music from 7-10 p.m. at the Elliotborough Mini Bar.
Saturday
Check out the 5th Annual Edisto Beach Shrimp Festival in honor of local shrimping industries. Children and adults are free before 5 p.m. and the festival will run from 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
The Avery Research center will display Professor Minuette Floyd’s photography exhibit This Far by Faith documenting African American religious camp meetings in the Carolinas.
The James Beard Foundation will host cooking demos by James Beard Award Winning Chef Art Smith at L’Atelier de le Creuset beginning at 10 a.m., but space is limited so reserve your spot now.
Celebrate the MOJA Festival Heritage Day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in Marion Square during the Farmers Market for music, art, and storytelling.
The annual Oktoberfest VW/Audi Car Show to benefit Lowcountry Pet Helpers will take place at JK Automotive from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Sunday
MOJA: If In My Heart I Do Not Yield talk will be at the St. Julian Devine Community Center from 4-5:30 p.m. to discuss the Gullah-Geechee dialect and its importance in the community.
The Tattooed Moose will once again hold their Moosefest at 6 p.m. with 8 different bands, the Moose meat raffle, and beer specials.
The Choraliers Music Club of Charleston will perform a special MOJA themed show at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church at 7:30 p.m. with Gullah folklore and a variety of musical stylings.
