Sean Brock, founding chef and culinary adviser of Husk, will be the first chef featured on the season six premiere of Netflix’s Emmy-nominated Chef’s Table, debuting this week on Fri. Feb. 22.

Back in Aug. 2018, it was announced Brock left the Neighborhood Dining Group (comprised of Husk, McCrady’s, McCrady’s Tavern, and Minero) to focus on endeavors in Nashville, Tenn., but his presence in Charleston isn’t forgotten.

In 2010, Brock opened Husk on Queen Street, and since then, it’s become a staple in the farm-to-table culture of the South, with three other locations in Nashville, Savannah, Ga., and Greenville, S.C.

Though he’s no longer active in Charleston, the featured episode will focus on his time here in the Lowcountry and the impact he’s had in Southern cuisine, using high-end cooking techniques in uniquely southern recipes.

Worth a note that despite moving to Nashville, the Chef’s Table trailer still identifies him as hailing from South Carolina.

Brock’s obsession with hyper-Southern food came from his grandmother, who introduced the chef to the world of old-school southern cooking, full of pickled and preserved ingredients. This led him to take over McCrady’s in 2006, then to open the popular Husk restaurants.

The chef doesn’t just pop into the kitchen — he makes a point to track down heirloom seeds, research old southern recipes, and work with farmers to produce truly southern dishes. The episode will also touch on his journey to sobriety and a mysterious health complication that nearly blinded him.

Other chefs included in the series are: Mashama Bailey of The Grey in Savannah (named Eater’s Restaurant of the Year in 2017); Asma Khan, who runs a restaurant in London; and Dario Cecchini, a butcher from Italy.
