Today, Spoleto Festival USA 2019 revealed the poster for this year’s festival, “Untitled,” by painter Laura Owens. The oil and screen printing ink on linen piece received its first showing at contemporary art gallery Sadie Coles HQ in London.

Spoleto Festival USA general director Nigel Redden approached Owens to be this year’s featured artist after seeing her retrospective at the Whitney, which opened in November 2017. That exhibit has traveled to the Dallas Museum of Art and MOCA Los Angeles, where it is currently on display through March 25.

“Ms. Owens has an extraordinary range, and the Festival is lucky to receive one of her paintings for the poster,” Redden said in a press release. “I think this particular work exemplifies the vibrancy, and also the curiosity, of the Festival. The unusual face within the piece certainly invites a closer look, and Ms. Owens’s layering techniques seem to conjure different ways of looking at things, which is very reflective of the Festival’s nature.”

You can purchase the poster online at spoletousa.org and it will be available for purchase at the Festival box office starting April 30.
