With the weekend coming, Charleston City Council voted to enact a curfew for the peninsula area of downtown on Friday beginning at 9 p.m.

The curfew will be in effect 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday.

No curfew is set for Saturday at this point, but officials will convene again on Saturday to consider whether one is necessary. No other local governments have announced curfews at this time.

Friday's curfew is the first since Monday, when officials ordered folks home at night after a weekend of protests that included destructive looting on King and Meeting streets on Saturday night.
