Firefly Distillery

When Firefly Distillery moved from Wadmalaw Island to a brand new 20,000-square-foot Park Circle facility at the beginning of 2020, owner Scott Newitt had no idea that a global pandemic was on the horizon. But, Firefly found a way to safely invite customers in for tastings and craft cocktails.

“From hosting Charleston’s first socially distanced concert series to creating hand sanitizer for our local hospitals and community, we’ve taken 2020’s lemons and mixed them with Sweet Tea Vodka,” Newitt said. “This year, we have witnessed firsthand the community coming together to support each other, and that’s what we love about Charleston.”

With food truck festivals, the “Safe Sounds” concert series — which is back for a second season — and special releases like the Firefly barrel proof bourbon or “Bend & Steal” American blended whiskey, Firefly’s massive compound is making its mark on North Charleston, despite the ongoing pandemic.

“While 2020 presented its fair share of challenges, it also gave us ample opportunities to innovate, overcome and adapt,” Newitt said. “The last year shifted how we interact with our visitors, but we’re thankful to have the community’s support while we pivoted to continue providing great experiences here at Firefly.”
