MORNING NEWSBREAK  |  Former Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley of Kiawah Island announced Monday that she has joined the Washington, D.C.-based Hudson Institute, a conservative foreign policy think tank, as the group’s Walter P. Stern chair.

The position was created in 2020 to celebrate former chairman Walter Stern, who was instrumental in making Hudson into one of Washington’s most respected research organizations.

“When our policymakers fail to call out our enemies or acknowledge the importance of our alliances, the world is less safe. That is why Hudson’s work is so critical,” said Haley, a former South Carolinagovernor, said in a statement. “They believe the American people should have the facts and policymakers should have the solutions to support a secure, free and prosperous future. I look forward to partnering with them to defend the principles that make America the greatest country in the world.”

What Haley will exactly be doing for the organization remains unclear, but the job involves working on foreign policy and national security along with other “key policy” areas, according to a Hudson Institute spokesperson. The institute also declined to say how much Haley would be paid or whether the job is considered full-time, according to media reports

“Nikki is a proven, effective leader on both foreign and domestic policy,” Hudson President and CEO John P. Walters said, referring to her time as the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Haley received Hudson’s Global Leadership Award in 2018.
