If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. But if you’re a band that’s been dropped by a major label, perhaps you don’t want to try again. Perhaps you’re so burned out and jaded by the major-label experience that jumping on another one is the last thing you want to do. Not Socialburn.
In 2003, these Florida rockers inked a deal with Elektra Records and released the stunning Where You Are. The album’s fine production and hard-rock sound (combined with amazing vocals) made a strong debut for the 20-something quartet.
Singer Neil Alday sounded like a combination of Gavin Rossdale and Kurt Cobain, and the music created by guitarist Chris Cobb, bassist Dusty Price, and drummer Brandon Bittner was pure modern rock ‘n’ roll and so subtly catchy that each and every chorus sticks around for days.
Despite that promising debut, Socialburn got dropped, Elektra went under, and the band began the search for a new home. Not to be deterred by one major-label stint, Socialburn eventually signed with Irock Entertainment/Universal, opting to give the major-label route one more try. In October, the guys released The Beauty of Letting Go, 12 songs that pick up right where Where You Are left off, even carrying over one track, “I’m Happy,” from the previous album.
With a new label behind them and just as much talent as ever, Socialburn are looking to take advantage of that ever-elusive second chance. With many lessons learned and even more miles traveled, they’re ready to live every bit of this new opportunity to its fullest.
