Last Thursday evening, local restaurants and bars gathered at the Historic Rice Mill Building to compete in the Second Annual Mojito Challenge. Bartenders competed against last year’s winner, Coast, for the title — which went to Chai’s.
A Furry Affair, at the City Gallery at Waterfront Park on Friday, showcased local artists’ work as well as paintings done by celebrities. A silent auction of the works raised money for the John Ancrum SPCA. Later that evening at Redux Studios, art sales from Girls! Girls! Girls! benefited The Magdalene House, which provides shelter and support for women coming out of correctional facilities. More than 20 artists donated artwork for this event.
Irvin-House Vineyards was the place to stomp grapes on Saturday afternoon. With live bluegrass music from Three-Legged Pig to keep the beat, guests couldn’t stay out of the grape barrels — be it to really get juicy (kids, of course) or to just pose for a picture a la I Love Lucy. Vendors such as EVO Pizza provided picnic food, and guests were able to buy Irvin-House’s own muscadine wine to drink under the oaks.
