CNN is reporting that a plane from the Blue Angels has crashed at the Beaufort Air Show. Beaufort typically holds this event every two years, but had to actually postpone the 2006 show until this year because the Blue Angels couldn’t attend.

Update: The Beaufort Gazette is reporting the pilot was killed.

While tourism is THE things bringing money to Hilton Head, the Beaufort Air Station and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island butters the bread in Beaufort. Training missions over the Beaufort area are a daily occurrence.

The report is that the plane hit a neighborhood, but there aren’t many in the area. The Air Station has been working with the nearby municipalities to buy up land and place conservation easements and they’re working to change zoning in the area to prevent residential development in crash zones. —Greg Hambrick
