Supporters of a school choice bill beat back attempts by voucher supporters to add public money for private schools.

(Sen. Joel) Lourie, D-Columbia, said advocates of private school choice only want this as a first step toward an open-ended school voucher system that eventually lets parents use “public education dollars like user fees.”
