Our summer edition of Dish, the City Paper’s foodie publication, hits newsstands the same day as this issue, Wed. Aug. 8. This time around, it’s all about the joys of summer. That means fresh veggies, ice cream, and cold beer. In the issue, the Southern vegetable plate gets its own spotlight, we take some worthwhile foodie road trips, and Chef Sean Brock writes about McCrady’s new farm, a move toward becoming a self-sustaining restaurant. Other drool-worthy features include a feature on ice cream, beer brewing, and high-gravity beer pairings. Pick one up at a City Paper rack near you. —Liz Robinson

A new Squeeze

A new juice cafe has opened its doors down near Waterfront Park at 6 Vendue Range. Juice-o-philes can find a lot of funky flavors at Kali Kali Juice Cafe, where signature drinks include the Kali Kooler, a green tea-based mixture of lemon, lime, and mint, and a berry concoction of green tea, strawberry, and banana. Other choices consist of various juice mixes, such as the Agile Apple, a combination of apple, orange and cranberry juices aimed at boosting vitality. Kali also has lighter fare like soups, salads and sandwiches, and some new age-themed books and retail items. For more information call 725-3900. —Liz Robinson

Papa ZuZu’s looks to conquer Mt. P

Mt. Pleasantans can celebrate yet another reason to never come downtown — they’ll be getting their own steady supply of gyros as big as their heads. Papa ZuZu’s will be opening a new location a 426 Coleman Blvd. the week of Aug. 13. Like the King Street original, the Greek fare will be fresh-made and healthy. The Mt. P venue will have indoor and outdoor seating, a bigger kids menu, plus a carefully-chosen beer and wine selection aimed at getting the best booze for your buck. They’ll serve only lunch for a while, but expect an expanded dinner menu in a few weeks. And best of all, there’s plenty of parking. —Liz Robinson

Closed for Good?

A while back Uptown: A Finer Diner locked their King Street doors and taped a note to the window, promising that they would reopen soon, after renovating a second floor space. It’s been a couple months now, the phone has been disconnected, and there doesn’t appear to be much work going on at their location that’s mere steps away from Marion Square. Looks like they may have to try again after that new hotel gets built next door. —Stephanie Barna
