Spoon: House of Blues

Austin, Texas rock band Spoon’s recent LP Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (Merge) hit the stores last fall. Thumbs up to singer/guitarist/keyboardist Brit Daniel, drummer/studio engineer Jim Eno, and the gang. It’s inspiring stuff. The spare, melodic quartet are set to perform at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach (4640 Hwy. 17 S., 843-272-3000) on Thurs. April 17 with support from The Walkmen and White Rabbits. April 8 was the release date for a new Spoon EP titled Don’t You Evah. The disc features a video of title track “Don’t You Evah” (directed by Peter Simonite), a tune titled “All I Got Is Me,” and remixes of the song from Diplo, Matthew Dear, DJ Amaze, Ted Leo, and Doc Delay. Also featured is the original version of the song by The Natural History. Tickets for the Myrtle Beach show are available for $17.50 and $36. Chesney Shares The Dream

Country superstar Kenny Chesney’s massive 2008 Poets and Pirates Tour lands at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia on Sat. April 26 with support from Luke Bryan, Gary Allan, LeAnn Rimes, and Brooks & Dunn. The event will feature the winner of a local Battle of the Bands, to be held on Friday, April 25 at the S.C. State Fairgrounds. Promoters are calling it “the largest country concert in the history of South Carolina.” Tickets are on sale for $49.50, $69.50, and $89.50. Porch Songs in Jeopardy?

The Pour House is collecting petition signatures to keep the lot adjacent to them on Maybank Highway commercial. If condos or housing are allowed on the site, it could effect the venue’s ability to allow guests onto the porch during concerts. They hope to host early evening shows on the deck this summer. Shag Tunes at Strawberry Fest

The 11th annual Lowcountry Strawberry Festival takes place at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant this weekend. On Sat. April 19, local beach/oldies band The Coppertones kick off the performances at 11 a.m. (they play several sets throughout the afternoon). Admission is $4 for adults.
