Bonnie Raitt recently referred to them as “one of the most soulful new bands around.” Taj Mahal calls them an “amazing band.” Local DJ The Critic plays their tune “Falling or Flying” on his Sunday morning Critic’s Choice program on The Bridge at 105.5. Vermont-based rock band Grace Potter & The Nocturnals must be up to something hot! The quartet visits Charleston this Wednesday in support of a groovy and soulful new roots-rock album titled This Is Somewhere (Ragged Company/ Hollywood). Led by 24-year-old vocalist/organist Potter, the lineup includes guitarist Scott Tournet, bassist Bryan Dondero, and drummer Matt Burr. Their organic and classic pop-rock sound leans in the vein of vintage Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Uncle Tupelo, The Stones, and The Band.
Opening the show with an early set at 7 p.m. are The Wood Brothers. Bassist/vocalist Chris Wood of Medeski, Martin & Wood and vocalist/guitarist Oliver Wood of King Johnson last played at the Pour House behind their debut album Ways Not to Lose (Blue Note). Their latest is titled Loaded.
