What it is: Charleston’s new affiliate of the national organization strives to improve the quality of our waterways through community involvement, scientific monitoring, and legal action while advocating against the degradation and pollution of our water.

The Lowcountry Food Bank feeds the poor and hungry of the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina by soliciting and distributing healthy food and grocery products to nonprofit agencies serving the poor, and educates the public about the problems of and solutions to domestic hunger.

• Directly fund the Food Bank’s services and programs, including the Kids’ Cafe, an afterschool program that provides hot meals for low-income students

LHT is a regional advocate for affordable housing which provides financing for the production and preservation of affordable housing.
What $25 Would Do
• Housing trust funds leverage approximately $9 for every $1 dollar invested, so $25 would equal $225 in community development
• 1 percent of closing cost/down payment on a home.
• 1 percent of acquisition financing for a Habitat house.
• Provide one affordable housing developer’s how-to manual
• Provide one two-hour session for affordable housing developers
