This press release just came in from the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. Stratton Lawrence, the City Paper reporter who wrote Our Broken Symphony last week, will be following up with a full story. Check in for more later today.

The CSO announced today it received an anonymous challenge matching pledge of up to $75,000 for gifts of $1,000 or more that are received by the CSO between Dec. 1, 2008 and Jan. 31, 2009.

This matching pledge challenge provides the CSO with a unique opportunity to double its donation revenue.

CSO Executive Director Jan Newcomb said: “This most generous pledge by several steadfast CSO supporters who wish to remain anonymous means that contributions of $1,000 or more will be matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $75,000.

“Thus, if we are successful in raising $75,000 in gifts greater than $1,000 by January 31, the CSO will receive a total of $150,000 which will help ensure the symphony can meet its financial obligations through January.”
