You don’t notch as many political successes as Arthur Ravenel without playing a little hardball. Occasionally, that means raising your voice and getting a little salty with your language. But these days, he needs to watch where he throws around the B-word. While apparently expressing his frustration at the district’s limited traction in negotiating space for a downtown charter school, Ravenel reportedly said that he had gotten rid of one “bitch” (former Superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson, who left on her own accord to take a job in Seattle) and that he would get rid of current Superintendent Nancy McGinley, too. The incident leaked to the press months later and Ravenel first denied using the word and then argued that he couldn’t remember the context that he may have used it in. Now that’s the kind of political prowess we’d expect from a Ravenel.
