We’re not talking garden variety neurotic distress. Nor even Grade-A Certified Bummed Out. The Great Depression lived up to its harrowing name. Poverty can make the strong feeble and the desperate inclined to criminality. To rise above all this requires a spirit that refuses to be defined by circumstance. Faith‘s Elizabeth (Sharon Graci) valiantly tilted against the perverse economic windmills of her era. She might have won out, too, if she hadn’t been so alone. Faith, Hope, and Charity was an eloquent reminder that hard times call for community.
