We just learned this little tidbit from the Spoleto folks. The setting for Basil Twist’s puppet show is going to be a black box specially built in the Exhibition Hall at the Gaillard. We had feared that Dogugaeshi would be staged in the cavernous auditorium. Evidently and fortunately, this is not the case.

It gets better. Spoleto is building a tunnel from the doors of the Exhibition Hall to the black box built in the middle of that space. So the effect will be entering into a secret world and one further enchanted by the art form’s elaborate matrix of slides. We can’t wait to see it.
