An intelligent voice on the radio

No, it’s not Marc Overton. It’s Adam Parker, staff reporter for The Post and Courier. In the wake of lay-offs, buy-outs and furloughs that have savaged the daily newspaper’s staff over the past few months, Parker has emerged as its most intelligent voice — a careful and dogged reporter on faith, nonprofits, and the arts, as well as an incisive cultural critic. His comments on violinist Sarah Chang this morning were engaging, probative, and easy-going. He even explained the psychology of child prodigies like Chang: how they often burn out or don’t get better. Meanwhile, Chang is soaring with a new recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. His remarks last week on Charles Wadsworth, explaining why the impresario has mattered to Spoleto for 33 years, were insightful and right on. It’s heartening to hear a local voice like Parker’s on a local radio station (WSCI 89.3).
