On Sat. June 27, Boone Hall Plantation (1235 Long Point Road in Mt. Pleasant) kicks off its big summer concert series with the 2009 Beach Blast — a full bill of top-notch beach music, soul, and R&B bands. Featured acts include The Original Tams, The Legends of Beach (featuring Jackie Gore), Billy Scott & The Prophets, The SugarBees, and Jeff Hall (of the Drifters). Shag lessons and demonstrations are planned, and shaggers can expect a spacious dance floor. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. and music starts at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are available in advance for $20. (No coolers or pets allowed).

Forthcoming events in the series include Aussie/U.S. pop-rock act Little River Band (remember “Reminiscing,” “Cool Change,” “The Night Owls,” or “Take It Easy On Me?”) on Sun. July 19; all four original members of country/gospel vocal group The Oak Ridge Boys (remember “Elvira?”) on Sat. Aug. 8; and world-famous singer/mandolinist Ricky Skaggs and his band Kentucky Thunder with support from N.C. act The Carolina Chocolate Drops on Sun. Sept. 6.
