Armageddon Conspiracy

With praises from Josephine Humphreys (Rich in Love), Anne Rivers Siddons (Low Country), you would expect the debut novel from Charleston resident John Thompson to be a top-of-the-line read. But Armageddon Conspiracy is not.
It’s middling fare, with a protagonist who’s one-part Jack Bauer, one-part Brett Favre, and one-part, um, the main character in John Grisham’s The Firm, whatever the hell his name is. It’s simply a preposterous character.
However, there are some genuinely intriguing bits to this read, including an investment firm that appears to make its bets based solely on stock tips from God and a snake-handling villain who wants to expedite the Second Coming by launching “a nuclear attack on the President of the United States of America.”
Yes, you read that correctly — a nuclear attack, not on a nation, but one man. Ugh.
