The Village Tavern just sent City Paper some updates in their live music calendar, and one show in particular caught our eyes: Brooklyn-based Franz Nicolay (the keyboardist of The Hold Steady) is solid for Thurs. Aug. 6 with support from local singer/guitarist Sadler Vaden (of Leslie). The last time Nicolay was in town was last August for a super-steamy-hot gig at the Pour House with Hold Steady during their tour behind the album Stay Positive.

Nicolay has a rich indie rock/cabaret history, not only with The Hold Steady in recent years, but with World/Inferno Friendship Society, Anti-Social Music, and miscellaneous projects as well. He recently produced an eclectic solo album titled Major General and assembled a touring band.

A self-description on his website states: “That mustachioed man-about-town you’ve seen with The Hold Steady, World/Inferno Friendship Society, Anti-Social Music, and more, steps up to the spotlight and salutes.”

Keep an eye on the Music+Clubs section for more as this gig approaches.
