The band schedule at Mt. Pleasant’s Village Tavern (1055 Johnnie Dodds Blvd.) experienced a few lulls over the fall, but its winter calendar has filled up nicely. In addition to a series of local bands — including the rejuvenated L. Brown Odyssey (singer/guitarist Daniel Bennett, bassist Khalid Smalls, drummer Jordan Herschaft, and guitarist Josh Muckenfuss).
Word has it that the Midlake gig on Sat. Jan. 9 was a blast of indie rock dynamite — well-attended, well-mixed, and well-executed.
One of the noteworthy rock shows of this month is metallic duo Jucifer (drummer Ed Livengood and guitarist/singer Amber Valentine), who are solid for a loud gig on Fri. Jan. 29 in support of their recent album L’Autrichienne (Relapse/Alternative Tentacles). Visit jucifer.com for more.
Hopefully, the Tavern will resolve to get a solid website up and running sometime soon (the page at myspace.com/villagetavern hasn’t been updated in 11 months). Stay tuned.
