Open to American poets age 50 and older, the contest is accepting entries through June 30. Winning poems of state senior poets laureate will be named in July, after which they will advance to the national round of competition. The 2010 National Senior Poet Laureate will be announced Sept. 1. Joel Colinco of Summerville won the 2009 state award with his poem “Caskets in Psychedelic Colors.” The 2009 National Senior Poet Laureate is Patricia Frolander of Sundance, Wyo.
