Born and raised knee-deep in the Gullah culture in Awendaw, not far from where she lives now, Charlotte Jenkins attended Johnson & Wales and ran a successful Gullah catering business called CJ’s Catering Service for 10 years with her husband Frank. She is currently the chef and owner of Gullah Cuisine on Highway 17 and the author of Gullah Cuisine: By Land and By Sea, a cookbook featuring the artwork of Jonathan Green, that was published by Joggling Board Press in March 2010.

When it comes to her home kitchen, Jenkins keeps it simple, stocking the clean fridge with water, oranges, and peanut butter, and a refreshing 2007 Louis Latour Chardonnay.
