On June 12, The Hippodrome released a tweet stating that the downtown spot — which announced its financial troubles in an April press release — will be gone by the end of the year. The next post claimed that “no one cares about best sound–picture–screen.” The City Paper e-mailed Hippodrome owner Michael Furlinger for comment about the impending doom of his establishment. He replied, “Just that it will probably close by year’s end!” Back in April, Furlinger wrote that the theater would be gone by September if things didn’t turn around.
