Bookworms, get ready: Charleston is about to receive a heaping dose of literary fun. A number of authors are scheduled to make stops in town, and the city’s largest book sale is on the horizon. Here’s what’s coming:

Poet Kwame Alexander will speak at the Avery Research Center (125 Bull St.) as part of MOJA on Tues. Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. He’ll read from and discuss his most current works (And Then You Know, Crush: Love Poems). Alexander is also an educator and producer of the Capital BookFest, which is set to visit Charleston on Nov. 6. Admission is $10. Call (843) 724-7295 for more info.

Also on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., Medal of Honor recipient James E. Livingston will discuss his new book Noble Warrior: The Life and Times of Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston, USMC (Ret.), Medal of Honor. Joining him will be co-author Colin Heaton. The free event will take place in Bond Hall on the Citadel campus.

True Prep author Lisa Birnbach stops by J. McLaughlin (212 King St.) for a signing  on Wed. Sept. 29 from 6-8 p.m. Birnbach is perhaps best known for contributing to The Official Preppy Handbook in 1980. RSVP to events@mazzpr.com.

The Ashley Hall Guest Writers Series presents a reading by poet Nick Bozanic on Mon. Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. He’s written two chapbooks, Wood Birds Water Stones and One Place, and two full-length poetry collections. He currently serves as Dean of Faculty and Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs at Ashley Hall. The reading will take place at Sotille-Thompson Recital Hall on the Ashley Hall campus. Susanna Ashton, editor of I Belong to South Carolina: South Carolina Slave Narratives, will speak at the main branch of the library on Calhoun Street on Thurs.
